compression is a trained physiological response.

you are working to reverse the 'normal' bodily concept of strength and how to respond to force.

so you cant use strength (expansion)

start with the jibengong. it is a very effective way to achieve a relaxed body with the capability to 'release' (cascade)

you have to physically work each joint to retrain it to hold a more relaxed resting state. and then, 'on demand', relax even more. the reflex has to be one of RELAXATION and not expanding, tightening, or restricting in any way. muscular use is restricted to the absolute minimum needed to maintain structural alignment. focus on the 'alignment' part of that phrase, and not the 'structure' part.

learn to 'fall' into the ground, vertically. if your paying attention, you'll see that you already are constantly 'falling'. Gravity, like air, is always 'on'. as a constant, it gets ignored, until there is a problem with it. orientate yourself to the ground, consciously and directly.

don't push off the ground, sink into it and let it propel you through the falling step.

learn to shift your weight underground in a curve like a wok, from the sole of one foot, under the earth, to the sole of the other foot.
